Height Safety Overview

There are many applications in industry where fall arrest and fall protection systems are necessary to protect workers who are working at heights.

In Australia, some of these might be: working in general construction or housing construction, working on top of tankers, high level walkways, excavations, hoist areas, near holes, doing formwork and reinforcing steel, performing leading edge work, working near unprotected sides and edges, also, doing overhand bricklaying and related work, precast concrete erection, and wall openings.

There are many situations where it is necessary to provide some form of protection for workers and others who may be working higher than ground level, and thousands or workers are injured every year through falling from heights.

Protection fits into several categories depending on the hazards and risks.  The level of protection provided for workers should be accordance with the current legislation of the region.

Also, all work at heights hazards and risks should be properly determined systematically by identifying the hazards, assessing the risks, controlling the risks and then reviewing the control measures that have been implemented, to make sure they the highest for the job.
